What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Painter position at Shewmake Painting and Construction Inc.?
We are a locally owned painting company based in Shingle Springs, CA, serving residential and commercial clients throughout the greater foothills region and beyond. Our crews take pride in quality craftsmanship, clean job sites, and professional service from first coat to final inspection. We are looking to add a skilled journeyman painter to our team — someone who can work independently, handle a wide variety of painting tasks, and represent the company well in front of clients.
This position is available part-time on an as-needed basis or full-time. Full-time employees begin with a 6-month probationary period. Work is performed throughout the Placerville area and surrounding communities within approximately 50 miles.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting — scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, priming, and masking
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, lacquer, and specialty coatings to interior and exterior surfaces using brush, roller, and sprayer
- Fill cracks, holes, and imperfections using appropriate compounds and materials
- Set up ladders, scaffolding, drop cloths, and protective coverings on job sites
- Inspect finished work for quality and touch up as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites, tools, and equipment throughout and after each project
- Transport tools and materials safely to and from job sites
- Communicate professionally with clients and team members on site
Qualifications
- Journeyman-level experience in interior and exterior painting — residential and/or commercial
- Proficiency in all phases: prep, caulking, priming, brush, roll, and spray application
- Valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable personal transportation — travel between job sites is required daily
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to a quality finished product
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work from ladders and elevated surfaces
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly with clients and coworkers
Compensation & employment details
- Starting pay: $28-30.00/hr
- Raise schedule: Competitive, performance-based raises available
- Employment type: Part-time as-needed or full-time at-will
- Probationary period: 3 months for full-time positions
- Service area: Placerville, CA and surrounding communities within ~50 miles
