What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audit Manager position at Sherwood Staffing Partners?
Audit Manager | Insurance Industry | Hybrid in Middleton, WI | $100-150K Base Bonus Profit Sharing
Send resume to Michael@SherwoodSP.com
We’re a well-established public accounting firm in the Madison area, and a big part of our audit practice serves insurance companies. Our audit group is growing, and we’re looking for an Audit Manager who wants to build their career around that work. If you’ve audited insurance clients before, this role will feel like home. If you haven’t but you’re a strong manager who wants to learn the industry, we’d still like to talk.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Running audit engagements from planning to final report, with a client base weighted toward insurance carriers and related entities
- Working on statutory (SAP) and GAAP audits, and helping clients through regulatory filings and exams
- Being the main day-to-day contact for clients and building relationships that last years
- Reviewing the work of seniors and staff, and spending real time coaching them
- Working closely with partners on engagement strategy, scheduling, and client growth
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of public accounting audit experience, with time spent in a manager or senior manager role (strong seniors ready for the next step will be considered)
- Insurance industry audit experience is a big plus: property and casualty, life and health, mutuals, captives, or reinsurance
- Familiarity with statutory accounting, NAIC reporting, or loss reserve testing is helpful
- Someone who enjoys teaching and wants to grow the people around them
Compensation and Benefits
- $100-150K base salary depending on experience
- Annual bonuses
- Profit sharing
- 401(k) with company match
- Comprehensive health benefits and generous PTO
- Hybrid schedule with 2 days per week from home
Why This Role Is Worth a Look
Insurance is a specialty that most firms only touch occasionally. Here, it’s a core part of what the audit team does every day, which means you’ll get deep, repeatable experience in an area where expertise is hard to find and highly valued. You’ll be close to the partners, your work will be noticed, and there’s a clear path forward for managers who want to keep advancing.
Middleton also offers a lot of what people want right now: easy access to Madison, a lower cost of living than most major metros, and a firm that respects your time outside of work.
