Behavior Interventionist/Specialist Needed
Location: Shelburne Community School

Shelburne Community School (SCS) is seeking a passionate, hands-on Behavior Interventionist/Specialist to join our general education team starting FY27. We are looking for a professional to provide intensive 1:1 support to students in the areas of personal development, behavior, social cognition, and academics.
This position is critical to providing appropriate specialized instruction and accommodations under the supervision of a classroom teacher or administrator.
Primary Responsibilities
- Carry out instructional activities, tutor students in academic skills, and implement specialized plans.
- Implement highly specialized behavior intervention programs and plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher.
- Collect, record, and analyze student data (such as interval data, weekly graphs, and progress reports) to evaluate student performance and needs.
- Facilitate multi-modal communication systems and assistive technologies to help students participate in instruction and social interactions.
- Adapt general classroom materials and methods in consultation with the classroom teacher.
- Participate in regular coordination and team meetings with teachers, administrators, and families to assess and respond to student needs.
- Support students to participate fully in classroom activities and field trips, while assisting with personal care and mobility as required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- A Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent training in behavior intervention, communication facilitation, or education.
- Two or more years of experience working with students who struggle behaviorally.
- Proven ability to implement effective classroom management and de-escalation techniques.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high-level problem-solving mindset.
- Active listening and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively with students, faculty, and families.
- High self-control, stress tolerance, and the ability to maintain composure and compassion in difficult or emotionally explosive situations.
- Strong commitment to equitable, inclusive educational practices and an exemplary work ethic.
