As a Mechanic II, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing the fleet and equipment that keeps County roads safe and operational year-round. From snowplows and heavy construction equipment to trucks and specialized highway maintenance vehicles, you'll help ensure the Highway Department has reliable equipment ready to respond whenever and wherever it's needed. This is more than a mechanic position—it's a career where your expertise supports public safety, emergency response, winter operations, infrastructure improvements, and the daily transportation needs of residents throughout Sheboygan County.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and equipment overhauls.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and maintain repair documentation.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.
  • Support winter maintenance operations and emergency response efforts.
  • Respond to field service calls and help keep critical equipment operating safely and efficiently.
  • Work with a team dedicated to maintaining one of the County's most valuable assets—its fleet.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Four years of experience in automotive, diesel, or fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex equipment issues.
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.
  • Valid CDL or ability to obtain required endorsements.
  • ASE certifications or coursework are a plus.

Salary : $30 - $35
