Duties

Support the pursuit of justice by providing high-level legal and administrative support to the District Attorney’s Office. This role is essential to keeping cases moving efficiently through the court system by managing critical documents, deadlines, and communications with accuracy, discretion, and professionalism. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Transcribe complex dictation involving legal terminology, including preparation of briefs for appellate courts and local judges, ensuring compliance with statutory and court deadlines.
  • Prepare correspondence and responses independently in accordance with established procedures.
  • Draft routine legal documents related to criminal court proceedings.
  • Prepare car forfeiture actions.
  • Maintain records of cases declined for prosecution.
  • Manage and maintain calendars for District Attorney court hearings.
  • Assist attorneys in meeting statutory and court deadlines.
  • Answer telephone inquiries, provide information, and interact with the public and other agencies.
  • Assemble case files and supporting materials to facilitate legal proceedings.
  • Organize, manage, and maintain closed criminal files, including accurate logging.
  • Communicate case-related information to the public and county agencies.
  • Sort, index, and file materials using alphabetical, numerical, or other classification systems.
  • Provide assistance in Criminal Division legal work as needed, including criminal complaints, search warrants, and John Doe proceedings.
  • Serve as direct backup to the Criminal & Traffic Paralegal Aide.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a District Attorney’s Office.
  • Typing proficiency of at least 60 words per minute with accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of office practices, procedures, and business English.
  • Advanced computer skills, including word processing and specialized legal software.
  • Ability to independently prepare legal documents and write detailed, concise reports.
  • Strong dictation transcription skills with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and good judgment.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements and office procedures.

This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
