As a Deputy Medical Examiner, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive death investigations throughout Sheboygan County.
- Respond to death scenes, evaluate circumstances, document findings, and collect evidence.
- Examine decedents and gather medical, social, and investigative information necessary to determine cause and manner of death.
- Coordinate investigations with law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, forensic pathologists, funeral homes, and other partners.
- Complete detailed reports, documentation, and vital records required by state and federal regulations.
- Assist with identification of decedents and notification of next of kin.
- Determine when autopsies or additional testing are necessary and coordinate forensic examinations.
- Authorize cremation, embalming, and final disposition of remains when investigations are complete.
- Testify in court proceedings and legal matters when required.
- Support disaster response planning and emergency management initiatives.
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and investigative integrity.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; education in criminal justice, forensic science, nursing, healthcare, biology, public health, law enforcement, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Valid State of Wisconsin driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully complete required background investigations and pre-employment screenings.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any certifications or training required under Wisconsin Statutes and Medical Examiner Office policies.
- Ability to respond to scenes throughout the county, including after-hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
