Principal Duties and Responsibilities
FUNCTIONS:
- Provide direct leadership for the departments of Residence Life and Student Life
- Manage on-going initiatives that support new and returning students in Residence Life and Student Life
- Serves as an on-call administrator and conduct officer
- Participates in campus-wide events and maintains positive interactions between students and staff
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct leadership for the departments of Residence Life and Student Life
- Provide direct leadership for the Departments of Residence Life and Student Life with the specific responsibility for overseeing planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of programs and services designed to assist and support students in achieving academic and personal success.
- Provide supervision and leadership to department personnel including Student Life Staff, Residence Life Staff, and student employees/interns.
- Control and evaluate contracts and expenditures to ensure efficient use of funds. Oversees budgets of direct reports.
- Develop and implement student life and residence life strategies consistent with the University's mission. Collaborate with other departments to design, execute, and assess a programming curriculum that delivers a diverse and engaging programming model (day, evening, weekend).
- Conduct one-on-ones and staff meetings.
- Oversee department marketing including webpage, campus calendar, flier and campus bulletin boards.
- Manage on-going initiatives that support new and returning students in Residence Life and Student Life
- Provide on-going initiatives that support new and returning students in their transition and persistence at Shawnee State University by providing a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere; connecting students to university resources and people; acquainting students with institutional values and expectations; promoting learning and discovery both inside and outside the classroom, and fostering student pride.
- Lead the Residence Life and Student Life departments in identifying student retention, persistence, satisfaction, success, enrollment goals, and provide continuous improvement in those areas.
- Create assessments and compile appropriate year-end reports, assessing progress of initiatives engaged in as well as design, build, and map learning outcomes.
- Provide administrative leadership in the development, coordination, and implementation of Week of Welcome. Manage the Week of Welcome budget and directs student volunteers.
- Oversee the planning, budgeting, execution, and assessment of student Homecoming events and the Parade.
- Recommend, develop, and implement student services and practices which foster and promote student learning, student success, and support educational programs.
- Oversee activities and management of Student Programming Board and Student Government Association.
- Provide support for student clubs in the areas of university recognition, event planning, training, group management and skill development for student leaders and program evaluation. Assist student organizations in meeting and assessing established learning outcomes as well as collect, report, and analyze assessment data utilizing software tools managed by Student Life (Presence).
- Oversee student training, such as but not limited to Anti-Hazing training.
- Serves as an on-call administrator and conduct officer
- Serve as a member of the Dean of Students on-call team. Provide consultation and responds to housing student emergencies.
- Make quick and sound decisions concerning emergencies, including referrals to counseling and health services, when necessary.
- Assist with case management and adjudication of non-academic and conduct matters, including housing policy violations. Serve as a member of the Dean of Students team.
- Assist the Dean in the development and delivery of educational outreach programs and training for the campus community.
- In the absence of the Dean of Students, acts as the chief conduct officer.
- Serve as a university conduct officer, which includes reviewing, investigation, adjudicating, and managing conduct cases where violations of housing policies or the Student Conduct Code have occurred.
- Act as a liaison with campus partners, addressing behavior of concern and participating in appropriate campus-wide committees that have impact on the student experience, such as but not limited to the Behavioral Intervention Team.
- Participates in campus-wide events and maintains positive interactions between students and staff
- Maintain campus partnerships between other departments and staff members.
- Serve on university-wide and state wide committees as assigned by the Dean of Students.
- Provide conflict resolution, support, and mediation for students and parents as needed.
- Provide referral information for students for academic or other concerns.
- Participates and collaborates with other staff members during Week of Welcome as well as serving on the committee.
- Presents at Orientation, Showcase Days, Open Houses, and Parent Information sessions, etc.
- Engages a diverse student body and staff, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment that promotes connection to campus life.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Student Development/College Personnel, or related field
- 4-5 years of experience in higher education setting
- Experience with student engagement software
