What are the responsibilities and job description for the Break/Fix Technician (Freelance / Contractor ) position at Sharp Brains Ltd?
Replace defective motherboards, hard drives, SSDs, memory, CPUs, power supplies, fans, batteries, keyboards, screens, and other components.
Perform server hardware replacements including RAID controllers, power modules, and storage drives.
Handle printer and peripheral hardware repairs (rollers, fusers, belts, etc.).
Follow OEM and vendor guidelines for part replacement and handling.
Maintain proper ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safety protocols.
Document all replacements in the ticketing system.
Return defective parts per RMA/warranty requirements.
Work with vendor support for part validation and warranty claims
Duties
- Provide technical support for hardware and software issues across various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software-related problems, utilizing tools such as BMC Remedy and ServiceNow.
- Manage computer hardware installations and configurations, ensuring optimal performance.
- Support desktop environments by performing maintenance tasks and updates through SCCM.
- Assist users with VPN connectivity, firewall configurations, and network administration tasks.
- Conduct analysis of IT infrastructure to identify areas for improvement or potential issues.
- Maintain Active Directory for user account management and permissions.
- Respond to help desk tickets promptly while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
- Collaborate with team members on projects related to computer networking, including LAN setups and TCP/IP configurations.
- Document processes and solutions in Jira for future reference.
Experience
- Proven experience in technical support or IT support roles, with a strong focus on customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Knowledge of computer networking concepts including DNS, TCP, and firewall management.
- Experience with mobile devices and their integration within corporate environments.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with users at all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with Meraki networking equipment is a plus.
