JOB DESCRIPTION
The Host/Hostess is the first point of contact for guests entering the restaurant and is responsible for creating a welcoming, professional, and organized dining experience. This position manages guest seating, wait lists, and reservations while ensuring smooth communication between guests, servers, and management. The Host/Hostess plays a key role in maintaining guest satisfaction by providing friendly service, managing dining room flow, and ensuring guests feel valued and welcomed.
REPORTS TO
Restaurant Supervisor/Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet guests promptly and warmly upon arrival.
- Manage guest seating according to server rotation, table availability, and guest preferences.
- Maintain and manage the reservation system and wait list.
- Provide accurate wait time estimates and keep guests informed of delays.
- Escort guests to tables and present menus when appropriate.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand and entrance area.
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist with reservations and guest inquiries.
- Communicate effectively with servers, bussers, and kitchen staff regarding table status and guest needs.
- Monitor dining room flow to maximize seating efficiency and guest satisfaction.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the dining room when needed.
- Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
- Address minor guest concerns and escalate issues to management when necessary.
- Follow all company service standards, policies, and safety procedures.
QUALIFICATIONSSKILLS
- Previous customer service or restaurant experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Friendly, professional demeanor with a strong focus on guest service.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy periods.
- Basic computer or reservation system knowledge preferred.
