Key Responsibilities of the Pathology Assistant
- Assist pathologists with the gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens
- Prepare tissue specimens for histological processing according to laboratory protocols
- Perform specimen photography, measurements, and detailed documentation
- Ensure accurate specimen identification, handling, and chain of custody
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
- Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory scientists, and healthcare teams to support timely diagnoses
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Follow infection control, laboratory safety, and best practice guidelines
Requirements of the Pathology Assistant Role
- Current BLS certification
- Current New Jersey Pathology Assistant State license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Pathology Assistant experience
- Strong knowledge of surgical pathology procedures and laboratory practices
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational, and communication skills
