Tax Director (ASC 740 Focus)
Service Specialists is partnering with a publicly traded manufacturing company to identify a Tax Director who will lead the company’s income tax reporting function, with a strong emphasis on ASC 740. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring accurate and timely tax provision reporting, supporting SEC filings, and partnering with executive leadership on tax strategy and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
ASC 740 & Tax Provision
- Lead all aspects of the ASC 740 income tax provision process (quarterly and annual)
- Ensure accuracy of current and deferred tax calculations, including valuation allowances and uncertain tax positions
- Manage the preparation and review of tax-related disclosures for 10-K and 10-Q filings
- Oversee effective tax rate analysis, forecasting, and variance explanations
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee federal, state, and international tax compliance (in partnership with internal teams and external advisors)
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess impact to the organization
Planning & Strategy
- Partner with senior leadership on tax planning initiatives and business decisions
- Identify opportunities to optimize the company’s tax position while maintaining compliance
- Support M&A activity, including due diligence and integration from a tax perspective
Audit & Controls
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors on tax-related matters
- Maintain and improve SOX controls over tax processes
- Manage tax audits and respond to inquiries from taxing authorities
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead, develop, and mentor the tax team
- Drive process improvements, automation, and efficiencies within the tax function
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, and Legal teams
Qualifications
- CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s in Tax a plus)
- 10 years of progressive tax experience, including leadership experience
- Strong expertise in ASC 740 and income tax accounting in a publicly traded environment
- Experience with SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q) and SOX compliance
- Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
- Background in manufacturing or a complex, multi-entity environment is a plus
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
