Job Summary:
The Assistant Manager – Quality Control is responsible for overseeing and managing day-to-day quality control operations within the automotive manufacturing environment. This role ensures that products meet company and customer specifications through rigorous inspection, testing, and compliance with industry standards. The Assistant Manager supports production with in-process and final inspection activities, drives defect reduction, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Assist in managing the Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Support quality audits (internal, customer, and third-party) and ensure timely closure of findings.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the QC team including inspectors, technicians, and lab staff.
- Monitor and control quality of incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products.
- Conduct routine inspections and audits of production processes to ensure adherence to specifications and control plans.
- Review and approve inspection reports, test data, and defect logs; ensure accuracy and timely communication of issues.
- Lead containment and corrective action processes in response to quality issues on the shop floor.
- Support production teams in resolving real-time quality problems, including line stoppages, rework, and scrap.
- Maintain calibration schedules and records for all inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IMTE).
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, control plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with QA, Manufacture Engineering, Production, and Maintenance to improve product and process quality.
- Train and mentor QC staff on proper inspection techniques, defect standards, and documentation practices.
- Prepare quality reports (PPM, Rejection Rate, Rework, NCRs, etc.) for internal management review.
- Other quality duty as requested
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Science, or a related field, or 5 years of experience.
- 4 years of experience in a Quality Control role, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or assistant managerial position.
- Experience in audits and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of automotive quality standards and tools such as:
- IATF 16949 / ISO 9001
- Control Plans, Work Instructions, and Inspection Standards
- 5 Why, 8D, Fishbone (Ishikawa) Analysis
- Basic understanding of APQP, PPAP, FMEA
- Hands-on experience with inspection tools (vernier, micrometer, torque gauge, scales, etc.).
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and technical drawings
- Familiar with quality documentation, NCR handling, and traceability systems.
Education/Training/Experience:
- Certification in Quality Assurance/Control (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt, ASQ Certified Quality Auditor).
- Experience with ERP or QMS software.
- 7-10 years progressive experience in Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
- 2 years of Management experience required.
- Experience of part quality assurance and new part approval.
