Job Title: Mainframe developers
Job Location: Montgomery, AL
Pay Range: $58-$60/hr (W2), depending on experience
Position Overview
Client is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to design, develop, maintain, and enhance mission-critical mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing enterprise applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, SQL, JCL, and TSO while supporting large-scale government systems.
Essential Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, implement, and support Mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, SQL, JCL, and TSO.
- Analyze business requirements and collaborate with users to develop technical solutions.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications and interfaces.
- Develop and modify DB2 SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and DDL/DML scripts.
- Write and execute ad hoc SQL queries and SPUFI scripts.
- Support reporting and data integration efforts utilizing Microsoft SQL Server technologies when applicable.
- Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
- Perform unit testing and assist with integration and user acceptance testing.
- Follow established coding standards and development best practices.
- Provide regular project status updates to management.
- Participate in production support and on-call rotations as needed.
- Work effectively within both Waterfall and Agile/Scrum development environments.
Required Skills
- Minimum 7 years of experience developing enterprise Mainframe applications.
- Strong experience with:
- COBOL
- CICS
- DB2
- SQL
- JCL
- TSO
- Experience developing and supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience using TELON or another COBOL code generation tool.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Experience supporting financial or government mainframe systems.
- Child Support Enforcement application development or conversion experience.
- Experience supporting systems with numerous external interfaces.
- Experience with legacy system modernization and data migration initiatives.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of Mainframe development experience.
OR
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of Mainframe development experience.
Preferred Experience
- 8-10 years of experience designing, developing, and supporting complex enterprise Mainframe applications.
- Experience leading development efforts and mentoring junior developers.
- Experience integrating Mainframe applications with SQL Server-based reporting and data integration solutions.

- Position is located in Montgomery, Alabama.
- This is a fully onsite position.
- No telework or remote work is permitted.
- No travel reimbursement will be provided.
