Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:

The Interim Coordinator, Career Development provides career and professional development services, including individual career coaching, career and education research, job search advising, resume and interview critiques. Designs and presents career development programming, including workshops and seminars and develops relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Essential Functions

  • Provides career and professional development services including individual career coaching and advising using assessments and research.
  • Develops, plans, executes, and facilitates career planning and professional development programs and events such as workshops and seminars.
  • Develops and maintains relationships to determine and offer services (events, workshops, orientations) needed for students and academic programs.
  • Provides department outreach and student engagement, such as creating and disseminating newsletter, social media, and targeted email campaigns.
  • Contributes to content and teaching materials for employability skills training, departmental orientation, and special projects.
  • Creates and distributes department marketing pieces and collaborates with Marketing and Communications department with College-wide marketing efforts.
  • Screens and approves online database profiles and job postings in compliance with department procedures.
  • Maintains and updates event information online.
  • Resolves student career services issues and escalates as needed to department leadership
  • Supports employer relations activities to include assisting with on-site visits and tours, networking and promotional activities, and involvement with appropriate professional associations.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
  • One year of experience with presentations, training, or teaching.
  • One year of experience in higher education, business, non-profit management, or human resources.
  • One year of experience planning and coordinating events and activities.


Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
  • One year of experience providing career coaching and career/professional development programming.

  • Knowledge of the community college philosophy.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills and ability to create presentations for students, faculty, staff, and outside constituencies.
  • Strong planning, organization, program development and evaluation skills with a demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks with attention to details.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as critical thinking ability.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced multi-priority environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.


WORK ENVIRONMENT And SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Works in an office environment.
  • Works flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Travels between buildings, campuses and to off-site appointments and events.

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children.
