Laborer

Laborers support underground utility construction crews by assisting Equipment Operators and Foremen with site preparation, trenching, utility installation, equipment handling, and general jobsite cleanup. This is a hands-on outdoor role that requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to follow directions in a fast-paced field environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing jobsites, including clearing debris, setting up barricades, loading materials, and organizing tools and equipment.
• Support trenching, excavation, backfilling, and soil compaction.
• Assist with placing pipe, conduit, cable, and other underground utility materials.
• Spot for Equipment Operators and help protect existing utilities by following dig-safe procedures.
• Set up trench boxes, shoring, traffic control, and other jobsite safety measures as directed.
• Operate small tools and support equipment such as tampers, jackhammers, hand tools, and power tools.
• Clean and maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
• Follow OSHA, DOT, company safety procedures, and all required PPE guidelines.
• Communicate with Foremen, Operators, crew members, and subcontractors to support daily production goals.
• Assist with site cleanup and restoration at project completion.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Previous construction, utility, or general labor experience preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a crew.
• Ability to pass required pre-employment screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Class A CDL.
• High school diploma or GED.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• Experience with trenching, pipe laying, conduit placement, or underground utility construction.
