As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.

The Role

As the Physical Education Teacher, you will serve as a "specials" lead within our 50/50 immersion model. You will spearhead PE instruction for grades K-5, promoting physical literacy, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles. While your primary instruction is in English, you will work in a unique linguistic environment, collaborating with Hebrew-language staff to ensure a seamless, inclusive experience for our diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities

• Instructional Excellence: Design DC Standards-aligned PE lesson plans that challenge students’ motor skills and coordination while accommodating diverse physical abilities.
• Active Engagement: Maintain an inviting, high-energy environment (gym or outdoor space) through effective movement-based classroom management.
• Data-Driven Wellness: Use informal and formal assessments of motor skills and social-emotional growth to tailor instruction.
• Collaboration: Partner with Hebrew and English teachers to align schedules and integrate school-wide themes into physical activity.
• Commitment to Equity: Foster an inclusive athletic environment where every child, regardless of athletic background or ability, feels empowered to participate.

Instruction and Curriculum

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned physical education that supports student engagement, rigor, and differentiated movement.
• Develop instructional materials and games that promote sportsmanship, conflict resolution, and teamwork.
• Establish clear, measurable physical development goals and regularly evaluate student progress.
• Participate in collaborative planning to ensure PE supports the broader school culture.

Classroom Environment and Student Engagement

• Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for physical activity.
• Implement management practices that promote positive behavior during high-energy transitions and competitive play.
• Foster student voice and independent problem-solving during team-based activities.
• Ensure equitable access to equipment and athletic resources for all learners.

Student Support and Collaboration

• Collaborate with special education teachers and support staff to provide adaptive PE for students with specific physical or developmental needs.
• Use performance data to identify gaps in motor development and provide appropriate interventions.
• Implement accommodations as required by IEPs, 504 Plans, or SST recommendations to ensure full participation in physical activity.

Family Engagement and Communication

• Communicate with families regarding student progress, physical milestones, and school-wide wellness initiatives (e.g., Field Day).
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences and family engagement nights.
