Elementary English Lead Teacher (K-2)

Location: Washington, D.C.

Model: 50/50 English-Hebrew Immersion

As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.

The Role

As an Elementary Lead Teacher in 3-5, you will serve as a homeroom co-teacher within our 50/50 immersion model. You will teach a specific subject, math or LEA, to one or two grade-levels. You will work jointly with the other-subject teacher for your grade(s) as well as the Hebrew language teacher to lead many aspects of the day. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in ELA or math, ensuring a seamless dual language experience for our diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Excellence: Design Common Core-aligned lesson plans that challenge students while accommodating diverse learning styles.
  • Data-Driven Growth: Regularly analyze formal and informal assessment data to tailor pedagogical choices and drive student achievement.
  • Classroom Culture: Maintain an inviting, high-energy learning environment through effective classroom management and developmentally appropriate strategies.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with other-subject teacher as well as Hebrew co-teacher, and instructional leaders to ensure curricular coherence and a unified student experience.
  • Commitment to Equity: Uphold the firm belief that all students can achieve at high levels, fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity.

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in assigned subject areas and grade levels with co-teacher.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that support student engagement, rigor, and differentiated learning.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish clear and measurable learning objectives for students and regularly evaluate progress toward those goals.
  • Participate in collaborative planning with grade-level or content-area teams.
 

Classroom Environment and Student Engagement

  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement classroom management practices that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
  • Foster student voice, critical thinking, and independent learning.
  • Ensure equitable access to classroom materials, instructional resources, and academic supports.

Student Support and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with special education teachers, English learner specialists, counselors, and other support staff to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Participate in student support processes, including Student Support Team (SST) meetings and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Use student performance data to identify learning gaps and provide appropriate interventions or supports.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as required by Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, or other student support plans.

Family Engagement and Communication

  • Maintain regular, professional communication with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with families to support student development and success.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required school training.
  • Engage in instructional coaching cycles and feedback processes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all job responsibilities.
  • Contribute positively to the school’s professional culture and collaborative work environment.

Compliance and School Policies

  • Comply with all applicable school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter and comply with all child abuse reporting requirements under applicable law.
  • Follow school policies related to student supervision, safety, and conduct.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including grades, attendance, and required documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Expertise: Deep subject-matter knowledge; ideally a major/minor or graduate degree in Education or a core content area. A teaching license is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: At least two years of elementary teaching experience with a proven track record of student growth.
  • Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication; ability to motivate a diverse group of learners.
  • Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Sela PCS offers a competitive salary scale based on experience and education.
