What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Carpenter and Field Project Manager position at Seawards Home Improvement?
Seawards Home Improvement is hiring a Lead Carpenter / Field Project Manager to lead daily field execution while maintaining company standards for safety, quality, production, documentation, customer service, and project control. This is a hands-on leadership position, not an office-only project-management role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead project startup, preconstruction walkthroughs, and daily field planning.
- Teach plan reading and audit layout, measurements, and quality-control checkpoints.
- Own material takeoffs, material lists, and approved order coordination.
- Prepare labor-hour estimates and track production against the approved daily plan.
- Draft and coordinate weekly schedules for owner approval.
- Coordinate approved deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor activities.
- Lead customer progress meetings and walkthroughs using approved project information.
- Own daily documentation, progress photos, labor tracking, material usage, and assigned project-system updates.
- Lead jobsite safety, hazard reviews, toolbox talks, PPE verification, and near-miss documentation.
- Verify jobsite protection, cleanup, security, and inspection readiness.
- Review project-level budgets and track approved labor, production, and material performance.
- Document RFIs, client selections, unresolved questions, changed conditions, and proposed change orders.
- Escalate scope, price, scheduling, warranty, and customer-commitment decisions to the owner.
- Lead punch-list completion, customer walkthroughs, and project closeout.
- Train, coach, and evaluate Carpenters and Helpers.
- Investigate and document callbacks, defects, safety concerns, and warranty issues.
Qualifications:
- Strong hands-on remodeling or general-construction experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading field crews and coordinating multiple trades.
- Ability to read plans, perform takeoffs, measure projects, build material lists, and estimate labor hours.
- Strong knowledge of residential and/or light-commercial construction sequencing.
- Proven quality-control, documentation, scheduling, and problem-solving habits.
- Professional customer communication and conflict-management skills.
- Ability to use mobile tools for photos, schedules, reports, and documentation.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license when driving is required.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of this hands-on role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Authority limits:
This position prepares, coordinates, documents, and recommends. Owner approval remains required for spending, substitutions, unplanned purchases, start dates, employee assignments, material schedule changes, change-order scope and price, discounts, free work, warranty decisions, and binding customer commitments.
Success means the crew starts with a clear work plan; work progresses safely with fewer surprises and callbacks; labor, materials, quality, photos, RFIs, and decisions are documented; customers receive clear updates without unauthorized promises; and employees receive consistent coaching.
