What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential and Commercial Remodeling Carpenter position at Seawards Home Improvement?
Seawards Home Improvement is hiring an experienced Remodeling Carpenter who can independently complete assigned work, solve jobsite problems, and organize work in the proper construction sequence. This position is for a dependable carpenter who arrives prepared, takes ownership of quality, coordinates effectively around other trades, and wants to grow into a trusted Field Lead role.
Responsibilities:
- Read plans, scopes, specifications, and approved daily project briefs.
- Plan daily workflow in the correct order around demolition, framing, trade rough-ins, required inspections, close-in, and finish work.
- Identify missing information, materials, measurement conflicts, and site-condition problems before they create rework or delays.
- Stop and escalate when drawings, field conditions, or assigned scope do not agree.
- Verify layout, dimensions, elevations, and existing conditions before cutting or installation.
- Complete rough and finish carpentry and assigned remodeling work safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Coordinate work around electricians, plumbers, inspectors, and other approved trade partners without directing licensed work outside this role.
- Lead one Helper, assign appropriate support tasks, and maintain productive daily work.
- Lead jobsite protection, work-area setup, cleanup, and end-of-day security in occupied homes and businesses.
- Build and assist with material lists, takeoffs, measurements, and labor-hour estimates.
- Track materials received, used, returned, missing, or damaged.
- Photograph work before concealment and provide clear daily progress updates.
- Perform quality-control checkpoints before requesting inspection or owner review.
- Document changed conditions and proposed change-order work without committing the company to price, scope, or schedule.
- Lead punch-list work and coach Helpers in safe, productive construction practices.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated residential or commercial remodeling and carpentry experience; two or more years is preferred.
- Ability to read construction drawings, follow written scopes, verify field dimensions, and plan construction sequencing.
- Proven problem-solving ability and sound judgment about when to proceed, pause, or escalate.
- Ability to independently perform several common remodeling tasks such as framing, doors and windows, cabinets, trim, flooring, drywall, decks, or similar work.
- Own and bring a complete basic carpenter hand-tool and layout-tool set for daily work. Personally owned common cordless tools are strongly preferred. Company-designated specialty equipment, large equipment, and required safety equipment are handled separately.
- Ability to lead one Helper and communicate clearly with coworkers and trade partners.
- Strong workmanship, organization, documentation, and problem-reporting habits.
- Professional conduct in occupied homes or businesses.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license when driving is required.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Authority limits:
This role does not independently approve purchases, substitutions, schedule commitments, added work, discounts, free work, warranty decisions, pricing, or customer commitments. The Carpenter measures, documents, prepares information, and escalates decisions for owner approval.
Success in this position means assigned work is safe, accurate, clean, and on schedule; work is completed in the proper sequence; layout is verified before cutting; problems are raised before they cause rework; the Helper receives clear direction; and materials, tools, hours, photos, and progress are accurately tracked.
