Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist on behalf of our client, a global trading firm specializing in quantitative trading, market making, and venture capital. This role is a critical part of a high-performing payroll team responsible for supporting employees across several states and multiple international entities. The Senior Payroll Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert, helping to navigate complex, high-volume payroll operations while supporting global mobility, compliance, and system enhancements in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle, multi-state payroll processing for a large and complex employee population
- Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll operations, including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Partner closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Global Mobility teams to ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting
- Support international payroll considerations, including intercompany and intercountry activity across global entities
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex payroll discrepancies in collaboration with third-party tax vendors and external partners
- Assist with state tax registrations and compliance as the organization expands into new jurisdictions
- Support payroll system enhancements, testing, and future ERP implementation initiatives
- Work with outside counsel on complex payroll and compliance matters as needed
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to continuous process improvements and broader team initiatives
Requirements include:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
Experience:
- 5 years of payroll experience, with strong expertise in multi-state payroll processing
- Experience in high-volume, fast-paced environments required
- Exposure to global payroll, international assignments, or global mobility strongly preferred
Skills:
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex data
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in payroll systems (experience with UKG Pro or similar systems preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Certifications:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of multi-state payroll laws and tax regulations, including complex states such as California, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania
- Familiarity with global payroll practices, compliance, and international mobility considerations
- Knowledge of payroll system configurations and process improvements
