ABOUT THE ROLE
The Technical Business Analyst / Product Manager will lead the definition, development, and delivery of digital and data-driven solutions supporting upstream oil and gas investments. This role blends upstream domain expertise, technical fluency, and stakeholder management, with hands-on ownership of requirements, analytics, and product delivery across investment and portfolio company needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and document detailed business and technical requirements for upstream analytics, reporting, and data platforms
- Translate upstream workflows including production, reserves, land, economics, and A&D into functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Act as Product Owner for assigned digital initiatives, managing product roadmaps, backlogs, and release priorities
- Design, validate, and maintain analytical models, dashboards, and reporting solutions for investment and asset teams
- Work directly with structured datasets in relational databases to extract, validate, and analyze data using SQL
- Partner with engineering and data teams to support data pipelines, system integrations, and automation initiatives
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across internal and third-party upstream data sources
- Support M&A and A&D diligence through technical data analysis, asset-level performance evaluation, and quality-of-earnings support
- Develop repeatable diligence frameworks, templates, and analytics to accelerate deal execution
- Assist with post-acquisition integration and ongoing portfolio performance tracking
- Serve as the primary interface between investment professionals, portfolio company operators, and technical teams
- Communicate complex technical findings clearly to business and investment audiences
- Manage multiple concurrent initiatives, timelines, and priorities in a fast-paced private equity environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Natural Resources, Finance, or a related discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to data quality
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with relational databases with required SQL proficiency
- Solid understanding of upstream oil and gas data, metrics, and asset evaluation concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across technical and business audiences
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a Technical Business Analyst, Product Manager, or Product Owner role
- Python experience
- Prior exposure to private equity, investment teams, or upstream portfolio companies
- Experience supporting M&A or A&D diligence
- Familiarity with upstream systems, data platforms, or analytics
