What You’ll Do
- Set priorities and standards. Assess existing practices, identify gaps, and maintain a consistent approach to safety as projects and operational needs change.
- Work directly with project teams. Visit active sites, evaluate working conditions, and help supervisors and trade partners resolve hazards. Follow issues through to completion.
- Make training practical. Deliver orientations and ongoing instruction that connect safety requirements to the work employees and contractors perform.
- Manage compliance. Maintain required records, prepare for regulatory inspections, and guide responses to OSHA/MIOSHA findings.
- Lead incident investigations. Investigate injuries, near misses, and other losses. Identify contributing factors, document findings, and coordinate actions to prevent recurrence.
- Keep leadership informed. Track safety performance, explain emerging concerns, and recommend changes to procedures, equipment, or resources.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 5 years of progressive safety experience, including responsibility for leading programs and influencing operational decisions.
- A background supporting construction activities and working directly with field supervisors and contractors.
- Working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA requirements, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and safety documentation.
- Experience developing and delivering training for employees with different responsibilities and experience levels.
- The confidence to address unsafe conditions and the communication skills to earn cooperation across teams.
- Strong organization and follow-through, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools.
- A relevant bachelor’s degree preferred. A combination of practical experience, education, and safety credentials will also be considered.
