What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager - Commercial Construction position at Scott Humphrey Corporation?
About the Role
This PM seat is not a traditional Construction PM role. It’s built for someone who enjoys the financial engine of construction. You’ll own the contracts, budgets, schedules, and project administration directly — no layers, no empires, no dedicated admin. If you’re energized by the business side of construction and want to run the full financial lifecycle of a project, this is the right fit.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the contract, budget, and financial management of large-scale, negotiated public sector projects.
- Manage all project documentation, pay apps, cost tracking, procurement, and reporting directly.
- Work hands-on inside the software ecosystem (client is moving toward AI-driven systems).
- Partner with Superintendents who operate with full autonomy — no “traffic cop” culture.
- Maintain strong client relationships that drive repeat, negotiated work.
What You Bring
- Proven PM experience in commercial construction (project type is flexible).
- Comfort with self-performing all financial and administrative functions.
- Strong computer proficiency and willingness to work directly in the system.
- Ability to manage $30M–$150M public-sector projects with complex stakeholder groups.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as a Project Manager in commercial construction (public sector experience a plus but not required).
- Strong financial acumen: budgets, contracts, cost control, forecasting, and pay apps.
- Ability to self-perform all admin/financial tasks with minimal support.
- Proficiency with construction management software; openness to AI-driven platforms.
- Strong communication skills with clients, design teams, and field staff.
- Experience managing large projects ($20M–$150M preferred).
- Problem-solver who thrives in a lean, direct, low-ego environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Construction Management, Engineering, or related).
