Scion Legal has been engaged to lead a confidential search on behalf of a respected and well-established Michigan-based law firm seeking a seasoned Litigation Attorney to join its sophisticated insurance defense practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced defense litigator with a strong background handling high-exposure personal injury and property damage matters who is eager to take ownership of complex cases and serve as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients.

This role is well suited for an attorney who values strategic case management, sound professional judgment, and long-term client relationships, and who thrives in a fast-paced litigation environment involving significant exposure and nuanced legal issues.

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Five or more years of litigation experience, with a strong focus on insurance defense matters
  • Demonstrated experience handling high-exposure personal injury and property damage claims
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex litigation from inception through resolution
  • Significant experience developing litigation strategy, evaluating exposure, and advising on settlement and trial risk
  • Hands-on experience conducting and defending depositions, including expert witnesses
  • Meaningful participation in mediations, facilitations, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution
  • Strong trial preparation experience and courtroom confidence
  • Experience communicating directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and in-house counsel
  • Excellent legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Commitment to proactive, efficient, and strategic case management
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan, or eligibility for admission
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Nice to Have Skills

  • Substantial experience representing national, Fortune 500, or other sophisticated corporate clients
  • Prior experience complying with insurance litigation guidelines and managing matters within budget parameters
  • Appellate briefing or argument experience
  • Ability to distill complex legal and factual issues into concise, persuasive recommendations
  • Strategic mindset with a client service oriented approach

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Proven ability to manage high-stakes litigation matters independently while collaborating within a team environment
  • Experience serving as trusted outside counsel to insurers and sophisticated clients
  • Practice experience in both state and federal courts

Role Details

  • Compensation: $150,000–$170,000, commensurate with experience
  • Level: Mid-Senior to Senior Associate
  • Practice Focus: Insurance defense litigation involving complex, high-exposure matters
  • Work Model: Flexible work arrangements available
