POSITION SUMMARY: The Middle School Art Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction in visual arts for students in grades 68. The teacher fosters creativity, technical skill development, and artistic appreciation while supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for Visual Arts
- Teach foundational skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and mixed media
- Introduce art history and cultural connections where appropriate
- Integrate elements of design, technique, and creative problem-solving
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
- Establish a safe, organized, and creative studio environment
- Teach and enforce safe handling of art materials and equipment
- Maintain clear routines and procedures for materials management
- Assess student progress in artistic technique and creative process
- Provide timely, constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records of student performance
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects
- Organize and display student artwork within the school or community
- Support school events and activities involving the arts
- Maintain current licensure
- Participate in professional development
- Support district and building improvement goals
- Follow district policies and procedures

- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
- Valid Colorado Teaching License with Art endorsement, or ability to obtain (additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
- Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
- Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for Visual Arts
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
- Experience teaching middle school students
- Experience working with multiple media types (drawing, painting, ceramics, digital art, etc.)
- Experience organizing student art shows or exhibitions
- Ability to integrate cross-curricular connections
- Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques and media
- Understanding of adolescent development
- Ability to foster creativity and independent thinking
- Strong classroom management skills
- Ability to organize materials and manage a studio classroom
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Classroom setting
- Occasional evening events (parent conferences, school activities)
- Ability to stand and move throughout classroom
- Ability to lift and move art supplies (up to 30 pounds)

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District.
