Construction Estimator

Schickedanz Construction is looking for an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team.

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for residential and/or commercial construction projects.

We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, analytical, and knowledgeable about construction—someone who understands that a good estimate is the foundation of a successful project.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and project documents
• Prepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
• Develop project budgets and cost breakdowns
• Compare bids and identify discrepancies or scope gaps
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners
• Identify potential cost savings and value-engineering opportunities
• Identify risks, exclusions, and potential issues during the estimating process
• Prepare proposals and pricing for clients
• Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and company leadership during preconstruction and project handoff
• Assist with contract and scope reviews
• Maintain accurate estimating records and databases
• Participate in preconstruction meetings and client presentations when needed

Qualifications

• 3 years of construction estimating experience preferred
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Proficiency with estimating and construction management software is preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard office software
• Previous field construction experience is a plus
