Join an award winning Library! Schaumburg Township District Library has a great opportunity for a current High School Junior, Senior, or College student. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Teen Tech Mentor to support our Youth Department.
NOTE: This part-time position is for 3 hours per week. The schedule is based on the library's needs and could change if needed. The schedule will be 4:30-7:30PM on Mondays; October 2025 – May 2026. Starting pay is $17/hour.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Teen Tech Mentor will primarily assist Teen Librarians with the Library’s technology and Innovation Hub offerings for Teens. The mentor provides guidance on the various topics of programs from creating 3D models to laser cutting and showcasing the other Innovation Hub equipment available to our teen patrons. Using their own experience, the mentor demonstrates success through a mentee’s growth in maker skills and knowledge with new technology.

Requirements For All Employees

- Assist Teen Librarians to develop and run program activities.
- Teach proper use of library technology such as 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing and embroidery machines, heat presses and sublimation printing.
- Create and host a time for teens to drop-in for a craft or demonstration utilizing a piece of equipment in teen (i.e. the button maker, soldering tools).
- Ensure the space is set up at the beginning and cleaned up at the conclusion of the programs.
- Promote Library programming, activities, and opportunities for teens.
- Communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing with patrons and staff at various site locations.
- Represent the library in a professional manner and abide by the staff policies and procedures of the library.
- Attend meetings and training as required or requested.
- Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A current High School Junior, Senior, or College student.
- Have at least 1 year of experience with maker technologies.
- A valid Illinois Driver’s License is required for this job.
