The District Network & Systems Administrator is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and security of the district's technology infrastructure. This includes managing local and wide area networks, servers (physical and virtual), cloud platforms, and cybersecurity systems. The administrator ensures secure, stable, and high-performing systems to support student learning, administrative functions, and daily operations.

The district utilizes a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to perform many specialized network administration tasks. The District Network & Systems Administrator serves as the primary point of contact between the district and the MSP, coordinating services, escalating issues, and ensuring accountability. The ideal candidate combines technical knowledge with strong communication and problem-solving skills, while working collaboratively with district staff and the MSP to ensure reliable, future-ready technology services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in network and systems administration (K–12 experience preferred).
  • Basic understanding of networking protocols and technologies (e.g., switching, routing, VLANs, DNS, DHCP).
  • Experience managing Windows Server environments, Active Directory, group policy, and virtualization platforms (Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and MDM Solutions (JAMF)
  • Basic knowledge of firewall configuration, endpoint protection, and content filtering systems.
  • Preferred certifications: CompTIA Network , Security , Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Cisco (CCNA), or equivalent.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or related field preferred (equivalent experience accepted).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to clearly communicate technical information promptly.
  • Valid Missouri driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between district sites.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Network & Systems Management

  1. Install, monitor, and maintain the district's wired and wireless networks.
  2. Administer virtual and physical server environments, storage systems, updates, and backups.
  3. Ensure system uptime, performance, and reliability for mission-critical infrastructure.
  4. Maintain domain services, including DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  5. Administer MDM environment (Jamf).
  6. Monitor systems and promptly communicate performance or security concerns to the Director of Technology.
  7. Coordinate with the MSP to address issues, request escalations, and verify completion of outsourced tasks.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  1. Implement and maintain district cybersecurity protocols, antivirus, content filtering, and patch management.
  2. Monitor network activity and investigate security alerts or policy violations.
  3. Maintain compliance with CIPA, FERPA, and other applicable regulations.
  4. Manage user authentication, access rights, and secure connections (VPNs, MFA, etc.).
  5. Partner with the MSP on vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts.

Support & Collaboration

  1. Serve as an escalation point for complex IT issues.
  2. Work with technology support staff, instructional technology leaders, and the MSP to align systems with district goals.
  3. Support district systems such as VoIP, video surveillance, printers, and software deployments.
  4. Provide training or mentoring for district technology staff when needed; provide one-on-one or small-group training for staff on basic technology use when needed.

Planning & Documentation

  1. Maintain updated network and systems documentation, including diagrams, IP schemas, configuration notes, and recovery plans.
  2. Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and major projects.
  3. Research new technologies and recommend tools or strategies to improve efficiency, security, and reliability.
  4. Document communications and project coordination with the MSP.

Professionalism & Leadership

  1. Prioritize tasks and manage projects independently while meeting timelines and expectations.
  2. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data and system access.
  4. Be available for after-hours emergency support and scheduled maintenance windows.
  5. Be available to support District Computer Technician tasks as needed.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve-month position. Hourly rate, work year, and leave determined by the district payment schedule and applicable Board of Education policies.

EVALUATION

Performance may be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on support staff evaluation.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Frequent bending, standing, crawling, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional exposure to elevated workspaces and confined areas.
  • May require irregular hours, including evenings/weekends for emergencies or system updates.
  • Visual ability to identify cables, wiring, and screen content in varying lighting conditions.
