Key Responsibilities
- Synthesize modified nucleosides and nucleotides following established and evolving synthetic routes.
- Purify target compounds by HPLC, flash chromatography, and related methods.
- Characterize products using LC-MS, NMR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and TLC.
- Maintain thorough laboratory notebooks (electronic or paper) and manage inventories of proprietary compounds.
- Interpret experimental data and present findings and progress at weekly R&D meetings.
- Support troubleshooting, optimization, and scale-up of synthetic processes to improve yield, purity, and throughput.
- Contribute to broader R&D planning and technical strategy discussions as appropriate.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong foundation in modern organic chemistry with demonstrated bench experience.
- Background in nucleic acid chemistry—nucleobase, sugar, and phosphate modifications.
- Familiarity with fluorescence, luminescence, and quenching mechanisms is preferred.
- Hands-on proficiency with HPLC, LC-MS, and standard small-molecule analytical techniques.
- Proficiency with analytical methods commonly used in small-molecule synthesis (LC-MS, NMR, UV/Vis, TLC).
- Excellent documentation habits, data analysis skills, and ability to communicate results clearly.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities
Education & Industry Experience Requirements
PhD with 4 years of postdoctoral or industry experience, or MS with 7 years of industry experience, in organic chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, or a closely related field

California Pay Transparency Statement.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $105,000– $135,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skill set, and internal equity considerations.
