Internship Overview

Qualified Candidates Must
Rising Sophomore: $17.00 per hour
Rising Junior: $18.00 per hour
Rising Senior: $19.00 per hour

Internship Overview
This internship offers hands-on experience supporting internal and external communications, media relations, and community engagement. Interns will work closely with experienced PR professionals and contribute to projects that strengthen Santee Cooper’s brand, reputation, and customer outreach.
- Internships run from May 17, 2027 - August 6, 2027
- Interns will work 40 hours per week
As a Public Relations Intern, You May Assist With
- Research, write, proofread, and edit content for internal and external communications
- Assist with articles, newsletters, employee communications, website content, news releases, and other publications
- Help develop and schedule content for Santee Cooper's social media channels
- Assist with communications projects and campaigns that support company and departmental goals
- Work with various departments to gather information and develop content for communications needs
- Assist with developing communications plans for company programs, initiatives, events, and announcements
- Coordinate with Creative Services to identify and obtain photography, graphics, and other visual elements for communications
- Research topics and conduct interviews to develop accurate and engaging stories and content
- Assist with reviewing communications materials for grammar, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company standards
- Help coordinate information and resources for communications projects involving multiple departments
- Support media communications and other external communications activities as needed
- Monitor communications and social media trends and identify opportunities for new or engaging content
- Assist with special projects and other Corporate Communications activities as assigned

- How to write and edit professional content for different audiences and communication channels
- How internal and external communications support an organization's goals, reputation, and brand
- How to develop and execute communications plans for company initiatives, events, and announcements
- How social media is used as part of an overall corporate communications strategy
- How to research topics, gather information, and turn complex information into clear and engaging content
- How communications professionals collaborate with departments throughout the company
- How photography, graphics, and other creative elements are incorporated into communications
- How to manage communications projects from initial concept through final publication
- How to adapt messaging and writing styles for employees, customers, community partners, media, and other audiences
- How a public power utility communicates about its people, operations, programs, and the communities it serves
Qualified Candidates Must
- Be pursuing a degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, English or a related field
- Have completed their first year at a 2-year college/university (transfer program) or 4-year college/university
- Be enrolled as a full-time student Fall 2027
- Successfully undergo pre-employment physical and drug screen if selected for this position
Rising Sophomore: $17.00 per hour
Rising Junior: $18.00 per hour
Rising Senior: $19.00 per hour
