Job Title: Controller
Location: Winter Park, FL (Fully In-Office)
Compensation: $120,000–$130,000 Base Bonus
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function across its growing multifamily real estate portfolio and vertically integrated operating businesses. This individual will serve as the accounting leader for the organization, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, audit coordination, and team development while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in real estate, property management, construction, or development accounting and thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment where they can make a visible impact on company growth and operational improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead all day-to-day accounting operations across multiple real estate and operating entities.
• Oversee full-cycle accounting, monthly close, financial reporting, cash management, and annual audit preparation.
• Prepare and review consolidated and property-level financial statements.
• Manage and develop a team of four accounting professionals, providing leadership, mentorship, and accountability.
• Build, improve, and oversee budgeting and forecasting processes across approximately 2,300 apartment units and 56 multifamily buildings.
• Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to support year-end audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting requirements.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and financial planning initiatives.
• Oversee development project accounting, including job costing, WIP schedules, subcontractor payments, and project reporting.
• Review property operating performance, analyze budget variances, and provide actionable financial insights to leadership.
• Manage intercompany accounting and consolidations across multiple business units.
• Develop and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Drive process improvements through automation and technology, leveraging NetSuite, AppFolio, and other reporting tools.
• Support acquisitions, development projects, investor reporting, and strategic growth initiatives.
Key Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong experience within multifamily real estate, property management, real estate development, construction accounting, or related industries.
• Experience preparing property-level financial statements and managing budgeting processes.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, and month-end close.
• Experience leading and developing accounting staff.
• Proficiency with ERP systems; NetSuite and AppFolio experience highly preferred.
• Strong Excel and financial modeling skills.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to roll up sleeves and improve processes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner directly with ownership and senior leadership.
