DEPARTMENT: City AdministrationSUMMARY: An appointed Category I position under the direction of the Mayor, and Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Legislative and Community Affairs is responsible for developing, advancing, and implementing Sandy City’s federal, state, county, and local government relations strategy while strengthening community engagement and supporting the Mayor’s policy initiatives.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, public administration, law, communications, or a related field required. Master’s degree in public administration, public policy, law (JD), or a closely related field preferred. Requires five years of experience in legislative affairs, government relations, public policy, or intergovernmental work. Preferred experience working with the Utah Legislature, federal agencies, county government, or municipal organizations. Experience in community engagement, outreach, initiative coordination, or project management preferred. Valid Utah Driver’s License is required. Probationary Period: Not applicable. This is an appointed position exempt from the protections described in Utah Code Ann. Section 10-3-1105(1)(a). Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal administration, as well as a good understanding and knowledge of the functions of municipal government; considerable knowledge of state legislative regulations and processes and the laws, ordinances and regulations relating to municipal corporations in Utah; principles of management, supervision, planning, budgeting, governmental finance and personnel principles and practices. Ability to coordinate and assist in evaluating a variety of municipal programs; ability to make acceptable professional recommendations on short and long-term policy development concerning matters of major importance to the citizens and administration of Sandy City. Responsibility for providing professional policy advice and guidance, assistance, and recommendations on matters of overall City concern, both to the citizens and employees of Sandy City.NOTE: Applications may only be submitted online at https://jobs.citysuitehr.com/sandycity.
