educational concepts relative to the duties and responsibilities listed on this job description.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Subject and Management Area
1. Remediates communicative disorders preschool through twelfth grade
2. a. Surveys school populations for the purpose of identifying students handicapped by speech, hearing or language disabilities
b. Diagnoses communicative handicaps
c. Selects caseload and proper placement in therapy classes
d. Plans and develops individualized therapeutic procedures for correcting or minimizing communicative disabilities
e. Assesses and refers students for other special education placement
f. Appraises parents or appropriate school personnel or the need for medical evaluation
in accordance with District policy
g. Evaluates individual programs as well as student progress
B. Relationships
1. Motivates students according to their individual social and educational needs.
2. Interprets to classroom teachers and other school personnel the special needs of speech, hearing and language handicapped students and reports periodically on the progress of each individual
3. Counsels parents in the management of their child’s problem and reports periodically
on the child’s progress
4. Cooperates with the Speech, Hearing and Language staff in all department matters and
contributes to planning for program improvement
5. Coordinates programming and scheduling of special classes for speech, hearing and
language handicapped children and participates in related community programs when possible
6. Cooperates with other community agencies or institutions providing services for handicapped children and participates in related community programs when possible.
C. Professional Attitude, Responsibilities and Participation
1. Keeps required state attendance register and makes periodic reports as directed
2. Participates in and contributes to in-service meetings
3. Further professional growth continuing education and attending professional workshops and conferences
4. Participates in professional state and national association or agency activities relating to the fields of
speech pathology and audiology
