PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Assist the principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level.  Coordinate assigned activities and services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

            Minimum Education/Certification:

            Texas Mid-management or other appropriate Texas certification

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

            Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills

            Thorough understanding of school administrative operations

            Strong focus on improvement of student academic performance

            Ability to promote a safe and orderly learning environment

 

            Minimum Experience:

            Three years experience as a classroom teacher.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the school scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.

 

  1. Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.

 

  1. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.

           

  1. Provide appropriate time, resources, and materials to support staff in accomplishing educational goals.

 

  1. Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

 

  1. Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.

 

  1. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.

 

  1. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.

                                                                             

  1. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

 

  1. Employ effective interpersonal skills.

 

  1. Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with parents, staff and community members.

 

  1. Assist principal in developing, maintaining and using appropriate systems and records indicators.

 

  1. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.

 

  1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.

 

  1. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff.

 

  1. Share supervision and evaluation responsibility for professional staff with school principal.

 

  1. Supervise and evaluate custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and

others when assigned by the principal.

 

  1. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-up reports.

 

  1. Assist in working with the department heads and faculty in compiling annual budget requests based upon documented program needs.

 

  1. Assist in the requisition and coordination of textbooks; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipt of textbooks and related materials.

 

  1. Coordinate custodial services and management of the physical plant; requisition of supplies; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts for such material.

 

  1. Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

 

  1. Coordinate transportation, cafeteria, and other support services.

 

  1. Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local board.

 

  1. Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods.

 

  1. Provide input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.

 

  1. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.

 

  1. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.

 

  1. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

 

  1. Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.

 

  1. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

 

  1. Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.

 

  1. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.

 

  1. Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

 

  1. Manage specifically assigned areas of responsibility effectively (i.e. textbooks, custodial services, special events, school calendar, campus maintenance, student attendance, staff orientation/development, student registration, etc.)

 

  1. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

       

Shares supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals and clerical personnel and others when assigned by principal.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

       

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate campus  functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

 

       

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Occasional districtwide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
