Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of People & Workplace Culture, the Interim Senior Director of Total Rewards provides strategic and operational leadership for the College’s compensation, benefits, and wellness functions.

This position oversees Compensation, Benefits, and Wellness and is responsible for compensation governance, salary administration, total rewards strategy, market analysis, and compensation modernization efforts. The Senior Director leads the development and implementation of modern, market-informed, internally equitable total rewards strategies that support workforce needs, employee experience, institutional priorities, and fiscal sustainability.

The Senior Director serves as a strategic advisor and operational leader responsible for compensation strategy, benefits oversight, wellness initiatives, and operational alignment related to total rewards programs and practices. The position partners closely with Finance, institutional leadership, and People & Workplace Culture leaders to support compensation planning, salary administration, market analysis, workforce support, and fiscally sustainable compensation practices.

This role also supports ongoing efforts to modernize compensation structures, strengthen operational consistency, improve total rewards processes, and advance employee support initiatives across the College.

This position is at-will.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Compensation Strategy, Governance, & Salary Administration

  • Leads the College’s compensation strategy, salary administration practices, and compensation governance efforts.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains compensation philosophies, pay structures, salary administration practices, and compensation guidelines.
  • Oversees compensation review processes to support equitable, consistent, and fiscally sustainable pay practices.
  • Leads market analysis, salary benchmarking, compression analysis, and compensation review activities.
  • Partners with institutional leaders regarding compensation-related matters, workforce support needs, and salary administration practices.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor regarding compensation strategy, market trends, and pay-related decision-making.

Benefits, Wellness, & Employee Support Programs

  • Provides leadership and oversight for employee benefits and wellness operations.
  • Supports development and implementation of benefits and wellness strategies aligned with employee well-being and institutional goals.
  • Oversees operational coordination related to employee benefits, wellness programming, leave support coordination, and workforce support initiatives.
  • Partners with institutional stakeholders to support employee engagement, workforce support, and employee experience efforts.
  • Assists in evaluating operational effectiveness and service delivery across assigned functional areas.

Strategic Leadership, Planning, & Operational Alignment

  • Partners with institutional leadership, Finance, and People & Workplace Culture leaders to support operational alignment and strategic priorities related to total rewards.
  • Supports salary modeling, budget alignment, and workforce planning efforts associated with compensation and benefits administration.
  • Participates in strategic planning, institutional initiatives, and operational projects related to total rewards and workforce support functions.
  • Promotes collaboration, accountability, operational consistency, and continuous improvement practices.

Total Rewards Modernization, Process Improvement, & Compliance

  • Leads operational improvement efforts related to compensation, benefits, wellness, and total rewards administration.
  • Supports development and implementation of operational standards, procedures, and compensation governance practices.
  • Assists in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and total rewards processes.
  • Supports modernization efforts related to compensation structures, operational workflows, and total rewards administration practices.
  • Ensures total rewards practices align with applicable policies, regulations, and institutional standards.

Other Duties As Assigned

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • Nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in compensation, total rewards, benefits administration, HR operations, or related functions.
  • Experience leading compensation strategy, salary administration, total rewards programs, or related operational functions.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field.
  • Higher education or public sector experience.
  • CCP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CEBS, or related professional certification.
  • Experience with Banner, NeoEd, PayScale, CUPA, or similar systems.
  • Experience leading compensation modernization, salary structure development, or operational improvement initiatives.
