JOB DESCRIPTION

Saline Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate English as a Second Language Certified Teacher to join our team. This role involves planning, implementing, and assessing curriculum and instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, as well as monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local policies governing the education of English Language Learners and the English as a Second Language Program (Title III, Elementary and Secondary Education Act -1965 I Every Student Succeeds Act -2015).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education/Certification

  • Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate 
  • English as a Second Language Endorsement (NS)

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, trained in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) or a related field 
  • Proven experience teaching English language learners in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate second language acquisition theories and best practices in EL instruction.
  • Bilingual skills are beneficial.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to the needs of English language learners.
  • Provide direct instruction in English language development, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Regularly assess students' language proficiency and progress using appropriate tools.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the integration of English language learners into mainstream classes.
  • Monitor and document student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and ways to support learning at home.
  • Research and evaluate strategies and programs that address the needs of English Language Learners.
  • Monitor and report district and building progress towards achieving EL goals.
  • Ensure district compliance with state and federal EL regulations and accurate reporting of EL data as required by the state.
  • Facilitate regular EL staff meetings; regularly visit assigned school sites to ensure program compliance and implementation of appropriate academic instruction.
  • Oversee the adoption and maintenance of ELD curriculum.
  • Uphold school rules, Administrative Regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and Administrative Regulations.
  • Confer with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents when necessary.
  • Participate in various meetings to receive and provide information.

  • Prioritize, organize, and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting established deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Engage in continuous professional reflection and self-evaluation to enhance effectiveness, leadership, and professional growth.
  • Maintain organized work areas, accurate records, effective routines, and efficient time-management practices that align with district and school expectations and maximize efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, inclusive, and emotionally supportive working environment.
  • Effectively manage and maintain resources, technology, equipment, and materials to support responsible stewardship of district resources.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

Work in standard office and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Temporary position, not benefit eligible.
  • Position hired via Edustaff.

PAY RATE

$200/day
