Position: HSE Training(West Branch, IA) The Training Manager, HSE reinforces a strong HSE culture that does not accept work-related injuries, illnesses, or environmental incidents and proactively identifies and mitigates risk across all projects and operations
This is a hands-on leadership role that partners closely with operations, site leadership, training and development, and HSE professionals to ensure training is practical, effective, and operationally relevant. Responsibilities: Develop, manage, and continuously improve enterprise HSE training programs, policies, and procedures. Develop and maintain a comprehensive HSE training matrix for all roles (Construction, Service, Manufacturing, Office).
Design and deliver instructor-led and blended learning programs, including storyboards, job aids, facilitator guides, participant materials, and assessments. Design and develop HSE curricula aligned to operational workflows and business requirements, utilizing internal and third-party resources (including online learning, video, interactive tools, and emerging technologies). Collaborate with project and site HSE teams to maintain and update training content and ensure alignment with current field conditions.
Establish and manage a corporate safety training calendar aligned with operational priorities. Lead, coordinate, and conduct safety meetings and regulatory compliance training, including OSHA, CSA, ANSI, NFPA,70E, EPA nd other regulatory requirements. Review and support project-specific safety orientations, HSE plans, and training programs.
Establish and enforce training compliance processes, recordkeeping standards, and routine audit practices. Maintain accurate training records and documentation in compliance with regulatory, corporate, and customer contractual requirements. Maintain current knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and construction industry best practices.
Monitor industry trends and recommend innovative and engaging training solutions to improve learning effectiveness and performance outcomes. Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of technical and safety training programs (e.g., GWO, Fall Protection, LOTO, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, Hazard Communication). Conduct skills assessments and verify worker competency in field environments
Implement practical evaluations, scenario-based training, and periodic refresher programs. Analyze training effectiveness, identify gaps, and recommend improvements. Participate in global or regional training standardization initiatives.
Other responsibilities as assigned Requirements: a) Competencies/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities): Strong knowledge of OSHA, ANSI Z359, NFPA 70E, CSA Group standards, and environmental regulations. Demonstrated continuing education and technical competency in rigging, fall protection, hazardous materials, confined space, air quality, electrical safety and personal protective equipment. Experience designing and implementing training programs that drive safety culture and reinforce operational processes, procedures, and reporting expectations.
Expertise in training development, adult learning methods, and competency assessment. Excellent communication and facilitation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills. Proficient with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital training tools. Independent, detail-oriented, creative, tenacious, and flexible are essential characteristics.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Education/Training, or related field (preferred). Experience 5-7 years of HSE experience, with at least 3 years focused on training program Experience in renewable energy/oil & gas, wind turbine service, construction, utilities, or industrial/manufacturing environments- Experience with GWO/IADC training programs (Preferred) e) Other Condition: OSHA 30 (Construction or General Industry). OSHA-authorized Trainer (preferred).
