What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist position at SAI SYSTEMS?
We are seeking a highly skilled machinist to join our tight-knit team of precision-focused problem solvers. In this role, you will set up and operate CNC and manual machinery to produce intricate, hard-to-manufacture parts to exacting tolerances. You'll collaborate directly with engineering and quality staff to ensure every component meets customer specifications, on time and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and manual equipment to produce precision components and assemblies
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts to machine parts to tight tolerances
- Manufacture custom tooling, fixtures, gages, and prototype parts
- Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.) to verify dimensional accuracy
- Troubleshoot machining issues, tool wear, and equipment malfunctions
- Select tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies for complex parts
- Maintain detailed documentation of setups, processes, and production runs
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality control procedures
Qualifications
- 5 years of CNC machining experience, including complex setups and programming
- Proficiency with CNC machining (milling and/or turning); manual lathe and mill experience a plus
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T symbols with a strong understanding of tolerances
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.)
- Experience with grinding operations (surface, cylindrical)
- Self-directed and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and on-time delivery
- Automotive or defense manufacturing background a plus
