Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Department

SAFE RESIDENTIAL CARE LLC
South Portland, ME Full Time
POSTED ON 9/30/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/26/2027

Safe Residential Care LLC
Full-Time | Salaried Position
Cumberland County, Maine

Safe Residential Care LLC provides residential services for adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities and/or autism. Our residential program homes are located throughout Cumberland County, and our teams work together to provide safe, consistent, person-centered supports to the individuals we serve.

We are seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and collaborative Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Safe Residential Care Medical Department.

This is a primarily office-based nursing position with a strong focus on medical data review, regulatory compliance, medication oversight, CRMA training, staff education, and quality improvement. It is an excellent opportunity for an RN who enjoys using their clinical knowledge beyond traditional bedside nursing and is interested in combining nursing expertise with education, oversight, and systems improvement.

While the majority of the position will be based in the office completing medical reviews, training employees, and supporting compliance activities, the RN will also have opportunities for hands-on client interaction, residential home visits, and direct clinical support when needed.

The RN will work closely with the other members of Safe Residential Care's Medical Department, providing support across agency medical operations and collaborating with Quality Assurance, Program Managers, DSPs, CRMAs, healthcare providers, and other members of an individual's support team.

Primary ResponsibilitiesQuarterly Medical Data Review & Compliance Oversight

A primary focus of this position will be the quarterly review of medical and health-related data for individuals receiving services and oversight of the information collected for those reviews.

The RN will:

  • Complete quarterly medical data reviews for individuals receiving services in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Director.
  • Provide oversight of the documentation and data collection processes used to support quarterly reviews.
  • Ensure required medical information is being collected, maintained, and documented appropriately.
  • Review information for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Review physician orders, Medication Administration Records (MARs), and supporting medical documentation.
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, documentation concerns, health trends, or areas requiring additional follow-up.
  • Collaborate with members of the Medical Department, Quality Assurance, Program Managers, and other appropriate team members when concerns are identified.
  • Participate in developing recommendations related to individual care, additional monitoring, staff education, or corrective action when indicated.
  • Assist in ensuring that concerns identified through the review process are followed through to completion.

The RN will use their clinical knowledge not only to review documentation for compliance, but also to help identify opportunities to improve the quality and consistency of medical support provided to individuals across the agency in collaboration with the medical department.

CRMA Training & Staff Education

Training will be another major responsibility of this position.

The RN will:

  • Obtain the required CRMA Train-the-Trainer certification.
  • Provide CRMA certification courses to Safe Residential Care employees once qualified as a trainer.
  • Provide CRMA retraining, education, and reinforcement of safe medication administration practices.
  • Provide education to DSP and CRMA employees regarding medical needs, medication administration, documentation, physician orders, and health and safety.
  • Develop or assist with training based on trends identified during quarterly medical reviews, MAR audits, medication errors, or other quality activities.
  • Help staff understand individual-specific medical needs, monitoring requirements, and documentation expectations.
  • Work with residential teams when additional education or competency support is needed.

Safe Residential Care will cover the cost of approved CRMA Train-the-Trainer coursework and other agency-specific training required for the position.

Clinical Collaboration & Recommendations for Individual Care

The RN will work collaboratively with other members of the Medical Department and an individual's support team when medical concerns, changes, or trends are identified.

This may include:

  • Reviewing changes in an individual's health status, medications, physician orders, or medical needs.
  • Collaborating with the medical team to develop recommendations for appropriate medical monitoring and support.
  • Helping residential staff understand and implement new or updated medical recommendations.
  • Providing clinical guidance when an individual's medical needs require additional staff education or monitoring.
  • Communicating and coordinating with healthcare providers, pharmacies, guardians, Program Managers, and other members of the individual's care team as appropriate.
  • Assisting with follow-up when medical concerns or documentation issues are identified.

This position is intended to be highly collaborative. The RN will work alongside the other members of Safe Residential Care's Medical Department and will provide support in other areas of agency medical need as they arise.

Client Interaction & Residential Home Visits

Although this position is primarily office-based, the RN will continue to have opportunities to maintain direct involvement with the individuals Safe Residential Care supports.

This may include:

  • Meeting with individuals in the office for medical follow-up or nursing support.
  • Providing hands-on nursing assistance when appropriate.
  • Visiting residential program homes when a medical need requires direct observation or follow-up.
  • Assisting with assessments or monitoring within the RN's scope of practice.
  • Supporting residential staff with individual-specific medical needs.
  • Observing medical practices within the home and providing education or recommendations when appropriate.

These responsibilities provide the RN with an opportunity to remain connected to the individuals receiving services while maintaining the position's primary focus on medical oversight, education, and compliance.

Rotating Medical On-Call Support

The RN will participate in a rotating medical on-call schedule with other members of the Medical Department.

During assigned on-call periods, the RN will be available to support DSPs, CRMAs, Program Managers, and residential teams when medical questions or concerns arise.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Fielding medical questions from residential staff.
  • Providing nursing guidance regarding changes in an individual's condition.
  • Assisting with questions related to medications, physician orders, MAR documentation, and medical procedures.
  • Helping DSP and CRMA employees determine appropriate next steps when medical concerns arise.
  • Providing guidance regarding when healthcare provider contact, additional medical evaluation, or emergency services may be appropriate.
  • Supporting employees with individual-specific medical concerns.
  • Supporting clients with hospital intakes and communication with medical facilities for after hour updates or needs.
  • Communicating issues requiring additional follow-up to the Medical Department.

The goal of the on-call rotation is to ensure that employees providing direct support within Safe Residential Care homes have access to qualified medical guidance when questions or concerns arise.

Medical Policy, Quality Assurance & Agency Support

The RN will also collaborate with the Medical Department and Quality Assurance on broader agency medical systems.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in quarterly medical policy and procedure reviews.
  • Assisting with MAR and medication audits.
  • Reviewing medical documentation for compliance and consistency.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting with the development and revision of medical policies, procedures, forms, and staff guidance.
  • Participating in follow-up related to medication errors or other medical concerns when appropriate.
  • Helping identify opportunities to improve medical processes and staff practices.
  • Assisting other members of the Medical Department with additional medical needs throughout the agency.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an RN who enjoys the analytical, educational, and collaborative sides of nursing and is comfortable balancing clinical knowledge with compliance and staff development.

Candidates should be:

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable reviewing significant amounts of medical data and documentation.
  • Able to identify discrepancies, patterns, trends, and areas requiring follow-up.
  • Confident educating and supporting DSP and CRMA employees.
  • Able to translate clinical information into clear, practical guidance for non-clinical employees.
  • Comfortable working primarily in an office environment.
  • Comfortable providing direct nursing support when needed.
  • Willing to visit residential programs throughout Cumberland County when appropriate.
  • Comfortable working with adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities and/or autism.
  • Interested in compliance, quality improvement, medication management, and staff development.
  • Able to work independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative medical team.

Experience in residential services, intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism services, medication administration, CRMA programs, staff education, medical auditing, or quality assurance is highly valued.

Why Join Safe Residential Care?

This position provides an opportunity to use nursing experience in a different and meaningful way.

Rather than spending each day in a traditional bedside setting, you will have the opportunity to use your clinical knowledge to review medical information, identify trends, educate staff, train CRMAs, improve systems, collaborate on individual care, and strengthen medical practices across the agency.

You will also remain connected to the people we serve through office-based client interaction, residential visits, and hands-on nursing opportunities when appropriate.

Most importantly, you will be joining a collaborative Medical Department, where you will have other medical professionals to work with, consult with, and support as the team works together to address the medical needs of the individuals and programs throughout Safe Residential Care.

Join the Safe Residential Care Medical Department and help us strengthen the systems, education, and clinical oversight that support quality care every day.
