Qualifications…
Certified by the Department of Early Education & Care as Teacher or Lead Teacher
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development/ Education, or a related field (or working toward)
Must be working towards a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Development/ Education, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years’ experience of classroom work (may include internship, substitute and/or floating Teacher positions)
Certified in First Aid and CPR training
Desire to work with young children and their families
Must be a caring, flexible, energetic, responsible, motivated, and positive person
Must have the ability to work cooperatively with other staff and administrators, and be supportive of coworkers.

General Responsibilities…
To fulfill all requirements and responsibilities as detailed in the employee manual.
To help maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing learning environment for all of the children.
To understand and implement the philosophy of Sacred Heart School.
To organize and maintain a clean, safe, orderly classroom, including but not limited to all common areas.
To maintain appropriate supplies in the classroom and notify the administration when supplies are low.
To be supportive to colleagues and families whenever necessary.
To be physically capable of lifting at least 40 pounds.
Regarding Families…
To maintain a high standard of professional confidentiality in regards to information concerning children, families and colleagues.
To greet families in a friendly and professional manner at both arrival and dismissal.
To build a mutual respect with parents and keep communication both respectful and appropriate.
To respect the individual needs of each family, while upholding the philosophy, policies and procedures of Sacred Heart School.
To inform parents about their children and respond to parental concerns in a professional, confidential manner.
To update parents regularly on the social, emotional, physical and cognitive aspects of their individual child through daily conversation, special notices, submissions to the weekly newsletter, and three/four written parent conferences per year.
To act as a resource for parents and to appropriately refer parents to a colleague when you feel you cannot provide sufficient resources or guidance.
To appropriately offer parents a more convenient time to speak if you are busy with classroom responsibilities. Children must be supervised at all times and parents will understand this.
Regarding Staff & Children…
To encourage and participate in supervision and interaction with children both in and outdoors.
To encourage and participate in respecting and listening to each child.
To work with co-teachers to plan and implement a curriculum that will enhance the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of the children. Plans must be made with set goals and objectives in mind in accordance to the philosophy of Sacred Heart School and the Lynch Program.
To encourage and have flexibility in the curriculum to meet the daily needs of the children’s individual interests and abilities while still maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.
To strive to meet the needs of each individual child in a group setting through a solid knowledge of early childhood development.
To regularly rotate children’s books, manipulatives and other classroom materials in accordance to the interests of the children.
To obtain books from the Public Library if/when necessary.
To refresh the dramatic play, block, large motor, art, science and other areas of the classroom periodically.
Regarding the Program…
To attend staff meetings and other non-school hour functions scheduled in advance – open house, Back to School Night.
To participate in self-assessment and goal setting.
To continue to seek personal growth by attending at least 20 hours of training a year, 8 hours of which need to be diverse learning training. This may be done through attending professional conferences, workshops, college courses or in-house training related to Early Childhood Development/ Education.
To assume the responsibility of on-the-job training for teaching assistants, interns, volunteers and substitute teachers.
Attendance in parent-teacher meetings.
To familiarize yourself with all Sacred Heart School’s policies and procedures.
To be positive and enthusiastic while at Sacred Heart School.
