Accounting Manager (Plant Controller)
Athens, TX (Hybrid – Monday-Thursday Onsite, Friday Remote)
S H Search is partnering with a growing manufacturer to identify an experienced Accounting Manager to serve as the financial leader for its manufacturing operations in Athens, Texas.
This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to partner directly with plant operations leadership, drive strategic decision-making, and help shape the future of manufacturing finance during a transformative period for the organization.
What You'll Do
The Accounting Manager will act as the primary financial business partner to plant operations while ensuring the integrity of product costing, inventory valuation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
• Lead plant cost accounting and month-end close activities across manufacturing locations
• Analyze manufacturing spending, variances, and operational performance to identify improvement opportunities
• Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes for manufacturing operations
• Validate and track savings initiatives and value improvement projects
• Manage inventory accounting, cycle count programs, and inventory valuation accuracy
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and costing protocols
• Partner closely with operations leadership to improve manufacturing efficiency and profitability
• Develop and mentor a team of accounting professionals
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 8 years of progressive accounting experience within manufacturing
• 3 years of Plant Controller, Manufacturing Finance Manager, or Cost Accounting leadership experience
Strong expertise in:
• Standard costing
• Inventory accounting
• Manufacturing variance analysis
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Cost control and profitability improvement
Preferred Qualifications:
• QAD ERP or comparable Tier 1 ERP experience
• OneStream or similar integrated reporting systems experience
• CPA and/or MBA
