Aide – Children’s Specialized Hospital, RWJBarnabas Health

At Children's Specialized Hospital, part of RWJBarnabas Health, the Aide plays an important role in supporting clinical staff and creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients and families. Working closely with therapists and other hospital personnel in an outpatient setting, the Aide assists with patient care activities under the direct supervision of clinicians, prepares and maintains therapy spaces and equipment, and provides operational support to help ensure quality patient care.

A typical day for an Aide may include:

• Assists clinical staff with patient care activities as appropriate and under the direct supervision of a clinician, including activities of daily living, patient transport, pool activities, and exercise programs
• Supports clinicians with the preparation, setup, and cleanup of patient care activities and therapeutic sessions
• Assists with the setup and cleanup of therapeutic activities, ensuring treatment spaces are organized, clean, and ready for patient use
• Practices appropriate infection control procedures when cleaning mats, therapy equipment, toys, and other patient care areas using hospital-approved disinfectants in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of therapy spaces, including waiting areas, ADL kitchens, gyms, breakout rooms, and treatment areas
• Helps maintain a safe environment for patients, families, staff, and volunteers during therapy and other patient care activities
• Completes temperature logs and monitors therapy equipment inspections as required
• Assists with transporting patients, materials, and equipment throughout the outpatient setting as needed
• Provides additional support to therapists and other clinical staff to help facilitate efficient daily operations and quality patient care
• Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients and families while providing a positive experience throughout their visit
• Communicates effectively with therapists, hospital personnel, volunteers, and other members of the care team
• May assist with the supervision and direction of volunteers assigned to the site
• Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the department and patient care environment

To be considered for this Aide opportunity:

• Experience working with children, particularly children with special needs, is preferred
• Excellent customer service and communication skills are required for interacting with patients, families, and hospital personnel both in person and by phone
• Must be able to take and follow directions effectively
• Must demonstrate physical stamina and the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, lifting, pulling, transporting materials and equipment, and assisting with patient transfers
• Computer knowledge and basic proficiency required
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification required
• No professional license required
• Must be available to work a full-time day schedule
