Job Title: Director of Safety
Location: Rochester, NY or Owings Mills, MD or Springfield, NJ
Reports To: Executive VP & General Counsel
Overview: The Director of Safety is responsible for leading and managing the company’s safety initiatives and loss control programs while fostering a culture of safety and best practices throughout the organization. This role involves supervisory, administrative, and hands-on responsibilities to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct bi-yearly training sessions with field staff on new policies, OSHA requirements, and best practices.
- Manage the RW Dake safety team, including inspections, action items, and addressing concerns.
- Oversee companywide safety inspections and reporting through Procore.
- Ensure daily Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) are completed, uploaded to Procore, and properly managed.
- Supervise weekly toolbox talks and assist project managers with site-specific safety plans.
- Review potential projects for safety concerns and financial implications.
- Maintain a 30-hour OSHA card and obtain OSHA 500 Certification within six months of eligibility.
- Enforce RW Dake safety policies and standards, reporting violations to the General Counsel and Regional Manager.
- Participate in periodic safety audits and communicate improvement needs to the General Counsel.
- Collaborate with QRS (Independent Safety Consultants) on OSHA policies, job inspections, and policy consulting.
- Advise and coach field supervision on site-specific safety concerns and upcoming work.
- Be available for safety-related concerns during projects, including nights and weekends.
- Oversee ISNetworld compliance, ensuring RW Dake’s rating and data are current.
- Attend job meetings with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to address safety concerns.
- Develop and manage training files for employees, including OSHA cards, lift training, and Fit Test information.
- Ensure RW Dake equipment meets current standards through inspections and service date tracking.
- Create and distribute quarterly safety newsletters highlighting best practices and industry statistics.
- Investigate near misses and injuries, report findings to the General Counsel, and ensure timely accident reporting.
- Maintain OSHA logs and update the Health Safety and Environmental Program.
- Lead the RW Dake Safety Committee and ensure compliance with insurance safety obligations.
- Complete site-specific safety pre-qualifications for customers and general contractors.
Required Competencies/Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of combined experience in safety or construction.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a GC environment.
- OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 certifications required; additional OSHA certifications (510, 3085, 3115, etc.) are a plus.
- Experience managing people and strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in time management, computer skills, and familiarity with Procore (preferred).
- Willingness to travel overnight
- Conversational Spanish is a plus.

Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
