What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Builder position at Rust Belt Recruiting?
Job Title: Industrial Machinery Builder
Shift: Day Shift
Salary: $28.00 – $30.00 / hour
Who We Are:
We are a specialized manufacturing shop in the Cleveland area dedicated to designing and building heavy-duty industrial machinery for the steel and tube industries. We operate in a close-knit, collaborative environment where every team member is a true craftsman. We don’t run "lines"—we build complex, fully functional machines from the ground up.
Industrial Machinery Builder Role:
This person is responsible for the complete "A to Z" assembly of sophisticated, commercial-grade machinery. They take raw components and turn them into running, breathing pieces of industrial equipment through a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Industrial Machinery Builder Responsibilities:
- Execute full-cycle "A to Z" builds of complex, one-off industrial machines including frame assembly and component integration
- Perform point-to-point wiring of control panels and integrate sensors and PLCs from electrical schematics
- Plumb complex pneumatic systems featuring multiple solenoid valves and manifolds
- Utilize manual mills, lathes, and grinders to perform precision tweaks, drilling, and tapping for custom fitment
- Conduct final testing to ensure equipment is fully functional and meets design specifications
- Maintain extreme attention to detail to ensure all components are aligned, wired, and fastened correctly without errors
- Communicate immediately with the team if a build issue or technical roadblock is identified rather than faking a solution
- Perform consistent deburring of metal parts and preparation of frames throughout the build process
Industrial Machinery Builder Reporting Relationships:
This position reports directly to the Hiring Manager.
About You:
- Possess extensive experience in a custom machinery OEM or complex maintenance environment like food processing or high-speed packaging
- Demonstrate strong analytical thinking skills to troubleshoot logic and mechanical issues during the build
- Recognize standard thread callouts (e.g., 1/4-20 vs. 10-32) and understand corresponding tap drill sizes
- Read and interpret both mechanical CAD drawings and complex electrical or fluid power schematics
- Program and set up CNC machines using Mastercam or keypads rather than just operating or loading parts
- Exhibit a craftsmanship mindset that finds repetitive assembly line or "plug and play" work unfulfilling
- Maintain a reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented approach to every task
- Lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver around large-scale industrial equipment
Next Steps:
If you are a detail-oriented craftsman and a natural problem solver, we would like to hear from you.
