The impact you’ll make
As a Welding Engineer – Electron Beam Welding (EBW) Process Engineer, you will operate in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment, directly supporting product development, qualification, and fielded hardware.
You will serve as a technical authority for Electron Beam Welding (EBW), working closely with R&D, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to resolve complex welding and metallurgical challenges that directly impact product performance and reliability.
In this role, you will directly contribute to R&D and product realization for metal and ceramic semiconductor equipment hardware, ensuring weld integrity, repeatability, and manufacturability in cleanroom and fab environments.
What you’ll do
- Serve as the Electron Beam Welding (EBW) process expert supporting development, qualification, and production of welded semiconductor equipment hardware.
- Lead weld process development, optimization, and qualification including WPS definition, parameter development, and process window establishment.
- Collaboratively engineer solutions to resolve weld-related quality, reliability, and field issues.
- Lead product development from prototype builds through product release and initial field support.
- Design and execute experiments, metallurgical evaluations, and failure analyses.
- Evaluate weld impacts on microstructure, heat-affected zones (HAZ), distortion, residual stress, surface finish, and downstream processes such as coating and anodization.
- Partner with machining, surface treatment, coating, and inspection teams.
- Provide technical support for installation, troubleshooting, repair, and debugging in cleanroom and fab environments.
- Collaborate with suppliers and outside service providers to qualify EBW capabilities.
- Present data-driven technical recommendations clearly and concisely.
- Maintain high customer engagement including international travel.
- Work in cleanroom labs and customer semiconductor fab environments.
Who we’re looking for – Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline with 12 years of experience; or PhD with 5 years; or equivalent experience.
- Direct hands-on experience as an Electron Beam Welding (EBW) process engineer.
- Strong understanding of weld metallurgy including aluminum, ferrous, and nickel-based alloys.
- Experience developing and qualifying weld procedures and inspection strategies.
- Exceptional analytical, experimental design, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, or defense hardware.
- Manufacturing engineering experience including DFM/DFA and transition to production.
- Familiarity with complex hardware drawings and 3D model interpretation.
- Experience publishing manufacturing documentation and workmanship standards.
- Experience working to ASME, AMS, AS, SEMI, or MIL standards.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
- Experience qualifying or auditing supplier EBW facilities.
