Product Design Engineer
Location: Cupertino, CA
Payrate: $60-61/hr
Description
We’re looking for a Product Design Engineer who approaches problem-solving with creativity, curiosity, and passion.
The client’s approach to packaging is unique, so we value individuals who are eager to learn, experiment, and expand their understanding of packaging design, manufacturing processes, and sustainable materials. We also welcome diverse perspectives from outside traditional packaging disciplines to inspire fresh, innovative ideas.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute packaging designs from initial prototypes through mass production using sustainable materials.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs and documentation for parts and assemblies.
- Ensure designs meet performance requirements throughout the product lifecycle by conducting material, stress, and failure analyses — and communicating results through clear, data-driven visuals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, environmental, operations, and technology teams to refine and implement packaging solutions.
- Build models and prototypes to visualize concepts, evaluate functionality, and validate performance.
- Partner with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers to optimize designs for functionality, aesthetics, and manufacturability.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools.
- Strong engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while proactively sharing updates and resolving roadblocks.
- Effective verbal and written presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Hands-on prototyping experience.
- Data-driven approach to solving complex design problems.
- Experience managing the full product development cycle — from concept to mass production.
- Knowledge of material science and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Familiarity with fiber-based packaging materials..
