Hardware Designer 1 – Mechanical / Additive Manufacturing
Location: Fremont, CA (100% Onsite)
Duration: 24-Month Contract with possible extensions or Contract-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM PT
Pay Rate: Up to $47.00/hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a Hardware Designer / Mechanical Designer to support additive manufacturing, mechanical design, rapid prototyping, and advanced manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with NX 3D CAD, mechanical design of sheet metal and machined components, and familiarity with PLM systems.
This role will support the development and optimization of additive manufacturing processes and products while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support additive manufacturing (AM) processes and technologies, including 3D printing, rapid prototyping, direct digital manufacturing, and layered manufacturing.
- Evaluate material, process, and design interdependencies to optimize additive manufacturing solutions.
- Apply 3D CAD, solid modeling, and computer-aided engineering methods to support product development.
- Create and modify mechanical designs, models, assemblies, and engineering documentation.
- Design components and assemblies, particularly sheet metal and machined parts.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Troubleshoot material, process, and part-related issues, including defects, porosity, and dimensional concerns.
- Develop and execute test methods, inspection procedures, and failure analysis activities.
- Research and evaluate new additive manufacturing technologies and materials.
- Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives for AM equipment and processes.
- Develop work instructions and technical documentation for manufacturing processes.
- Support training of manufacturing personnel, machinists, and technicians on new processes and methods.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product teams to resolve technical issues and improve production processes.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of relevant mechanical design, hardware design, manufacturing, or additive manufacturing experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with Siemens NX 3D CAD is required.
- Candidates must have either:
- Current/recent professional experience using NX, or
- At least 2 years of prior professional NX experience.
- Solid mechanical design experience with sheet metal and machined components.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting prototype development, manufacturing, testing, or process improvement.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Teamcenter PLM or similar product lifecycle management systems.
- Experience with additive manufacturing, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, or digital manufacturing.
- Experience with materials, manufacturing processes, defect analysis, or failure analysis.
- Knowledge of CAD-based design optimization and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience developing manufacturing work instructions or training materials.
