Job Description
The Financial Reporting Accountant will work as part of a team providing accounting, financial reporting, administration, and investor servicing support to investment companies and investment advisers. The role will support alternative investment clients, including hedge funds, private equity funds, CLOs, and similar investment vehicles.
The position will be responsible for reviewing accounting and financial statement information, supporting financial and regulatory reporting, resolving accounting issues, and assisting with complex accounting and reconciliation activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting activities for investment companies and advisers.
- Review accounting and financial statement information for accuracy and completeness.
- Support preparation and review of financial statements and reporting packages.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciliation items.
- Assist with the accounting treatment and setup of unusual or complex investment types.
- Support the setup and processing of complex expense, management fee, and incentive/performance fee calculations.
- Review and provide accounting documentation and information for audit and tax reviews.
- Identify potential accounting and risk-related issues and assist with implementing appropriate solutions.
- Act as a point of contact for accounting-related questions and help resolve client issues.
- Work collaboratively with team members and provide guidance/review support to less experienced staff.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with applicable accounting principles and procedures.
- Assist with process improvements and changes based on client and business requirements.
- Utilize financial reporting and accounting systems to support daily activities.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in the alternative investments industry, including experience with a fund, fund administrator, investment company, or public accounting firm.
- Candidates from Big Four or midsize public accounting firms should have experience performing audits of alternative investment funds, such as hedge funds or private equity funds.
- Knowledge of portfolio accounting and the investment management industry.
- Experience with financial reporting, financial statements, accounting reconciliations, and general accounting principles.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Advent or similar investment accounting applications.
- Experience with the Confluence financial reporting platform.
- Experience with hedge funds, private equity funds, CLOs, or other alternative investment products.
- Knowledge of management fees, incentive/performance fees, fund expenses, and related calculations.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide guidance to junior team members.
- CPA is preferred but not required.
