Summary
The Credit Specialist will play an integral role in evaluating loan risk, providing seller support, and ensuring the quality of loans purchased meets Brokerage requirements.
The position requires expert mortgage underwriting and credit knowledge, clear communication skills, consistently outstanding client service, and proven problem solving and decision-making skills.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Analyze non-agency mortgage loans in a timely manner for completeness in underwriting and compliance with Brokerage purchase guidelines, approved seller variances, and/or seller-approved program guidelines.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations for underwriting waivers and eligibility exceptions in the areas of credit and property with sellers and external 3rd party due diligence providers.
- Clearly communicate, in written and verbal form, compensating factors to justify exceptions.
- Provide support to Brokerage sellers by evaluating and supplying feedback on loan scenarios, at times based on limited information.
- Understand and effectively work with Seller variances relative to product eligibility and underwriting guidelines.
- Assist in identifying loan quality trends and provide clear feedback for Brokerage credit policy recommendations.
- Actively participate in evaluation of current loan review processes with feedback and recommendations to increase efficiency and risk management capabilities.
- Interpret, evaluate, and document information in seller underwriting guidelines for use by management in managing risk.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert to internal/external staff regarding underwriting and compliance to Brokerage guidelines.
Education, Experience & Skills
- 8 years of mortgage industry experience.
- 5 years of underwriting experience.
- 2 years of underwriting management or team lead experience preferred.
- 2 years of manual Jumbo underwriting experience required.
- Non-QM underwriting experience preferred.
- Expert underwriting knowledge and extensive experience with loan origination documentation.
- High attention to detail with effective problem-solving skills.
- Desire and ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external parties.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent client service skills required.
- Analytical thinking, diplomacy, and professionalism required.
