Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading key accounting processes including month-end close, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and account reconciliations. This role ensures the integrity of financial data and provides analytical support to senior leadership. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of GAAP, and experience in multi-entity or field service industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts with accuracy and timeliness
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries
- Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local tax regulations
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Improve and document accounting processes and internal controls
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial data across business functions
- Support integration of acquisitions or new offices into accounting systems and procedures
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred)
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction, traffic control, or field services
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP (and Canadian accounting standards a plus)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar ERP systems)
- Advanced Excel skills and experience creating financial reports and reconciliations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license (occasional travel may be required)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-location organization
- Willingness to participate in ongoing learning and training
